As a youth, I lived in Memphis and my father, who loved cars. would take me over the West Memphis on Saturday nights to watch the hot-rod races. I remember the oval-shaped track was all dirt with a wooden fence at each end and beacher seats on the side. The cars were not like race cars today but more like the 40s and 50s Fords and Chevys with not hoods and exposed engines that were loud and extremely hot running. My dad allowed me to sit anywhere I w wanted to and I liked to sit at either end by the fence, The reason I liked it there because on many occasion a driver would be going faster than the rest of cars and end up missing the turn - plowing through the fence! This was the most exciting part of the race for me!!! Now as a kid I always heard the name, Hooker Hood, again and again, so I thought the driver plowing through the fence waws Hooker Hood. So I always wanted to go to West Memphis to see Hooker Hood. Is there anybody in your audience that knows more about Hooker Hood. Today I don't think he ran through the fence every time!
thanks for your interesting programs and great music
